According to Ancient Scientists, every matter(solid,liquid,gas) possesses the fundamental physical quantities those are mass, length, time.
They observe the motion of creatures(human, birds, animals) on earth and called it as mechanical motion. In fact, trees are not moving (not changing their positions themself) actually — it gives the idea of equilibrium.
When a body is moving with certain influence of another body (by gravity in y-direction, on the surface of earth x-direction), then it possesses some other physical quantities like speed, velocity,acceleration, distance, displacement. Here displacement ,velocity, acceleration are changes with direction (vectors).
